JOEL KAPLAN

Florida Supreme Court Certified Civil Mediator

Joel Kaplan has been an active trial lawyer since 1974. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants throughout the State of Florida. He is a member in good standing in the Florida and United States District Courts for the Southern District Bars.

Mr. Kaplan's trial practice was restricted to matters relating to personal injury, premises liability, products liability, wrongful death, medical and dental malpractice and admiralty.

During the course of his career, he acquired expertise in complex multi-party litigation involving catastrophic injuries for plaintiffs, physicians and professional associations. He served as lead trial counsel in over 350 jury trials.

He achieved and has retained an AV rating awarded by Martindale-Hubbell.

Mediation Experience

Mr. Kaplan completed the requirements as a civil circuit mediator by the Florida Supreme Court in 2003 and is a member of the Florida Academy of Professional Mediators. He has conducted in excess of 3000 mediations throughout the State of Florida. These mediated cases have included general liability, premises, security, personal injury, medical and dental malpractice, products liability, motor vehicle accidents and cruise line passenger and crew claims, assisted living and nursing home institutions.

Mr. Kaplan is on the approved lists for national and international insurance companies as well as Florida County Hospital Districts, HCA, Tenent, Baptist Health, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Carnival Cruise Lines and Disney Cruise Lines.

Arbitration Experience

Mr. Kaplan has served as an arbitrator in numerous cases over the past 25 years. These matters include binding and non-binding arbitration, mostly involving negligence claims arising from healthcare providers, nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout Florida.
